What is MOP (Maximum Oil Pickup)?

Product Description

Maximum Oil Pickup (MOP) is a cradle-to-cradle green product that is the most effective oil spill recovery system on the market.

MOP is an aggressive oleophilic and hydrophobic (oil attracting and water repelling) recycled fiber, manufactured using low-head hydropower, from recycled and fully biodegradable components, MOPs properties are such that it can effectively deal with an oil spill the size of the Exxon Valdez in a 24 hour period, but is just as effective as cleaning up a spill off a garage floor.

Product capabilities and capacity

1. Hydrophobic: Repels water
2. Oleophillic (Oil loving): absorbs oil
3. MOP is manufactured utilizing different formulas to create MOP products specifically optimized for dry land and water spills. One form of MOP (MOP 301) contains environmentally safe oil consumptive microbes that are released when MOP is spread on a spill. Creating a consumptive environment where the microbes consume any trace amounts of oil not picked up by the MOP. MOP 201 is specially optimized, and EPA Approved, for use on water.

Small spills: MOP can be spread and cleaned up "by hand" in response to any small spills. Additionally, products including pillows and booms are available. We offer spill kits that come in a variety of sizes.
Large spills: Rapid delivery of the product utilizing the MOP cannon will mitigate a spill of almost any size rapidly. MOP is often the ONLY effective remediation product for spills that are not addressed immediately.
Disposal: Because all of the components of MOP are fully biodegradable the byproducts of any cleanup - that does not involve any additional toxic agent*- does not require treatment as a hazardous material. This allows both the recovery of the oil (if specific quantities justify recovery) in a usable form and the disposal of MOP residual byproduct.

Choices for Disposal

Farm treatment: Used MOP can be tilled directly into a soil farm disposal system. This can be done with MOP that is fully saturated or after oil recovery utilizing one of the MOP recovery system products.
Compostable: MOP 301 can be composted. The oil-consuming microbes will work in concert with the composting process to fully remediate the used MOP.
Burnable: MOP is burnable as a fuel after the removal of oil.

Key Characteristics

1. Works on water and land; in all types of weather leaving conditions.
2. Is 100% biodegradable, non-corrosive, non-toxic, non-irritating - safe to plants and animals and people.
3. Cleanly recovers up to 95% of the absorbed oil simply by squeezing. The remaining material can be burned to recover 100% of the available energy, while leaving as little as 0.1% ash.
4. Absorbs up to 30 times its own weight in oil offering superior absorbent performance.
5. It is made from 100% recycled materials treated to be fire retardant, is very lightweight and easy to handle.
6. MOP 301, optimized for land use contains traction restoring grit, so treated hard surfaces are immediately safe and not slippery.

Cost Effective in Comparison to Other Sorbents.

1. More that four times as cost effective as most other sorbents based on material costs.
2. More than ten times more cost effective than most other sorbents when disposal cost is considered.
